The BSc (Health, Safety & Environment) is a new course that combines two previous Curtin programs, the BSc (Environmental Health) and the BSc (Health & Safety). This new course is designed to broaden the employment opportunities for students in the rapidly expanding area of health, safety and environment, while still allowing students to select a major in either ‘Environmental Health’ or ‘Health & Safety’. There is currently an extremely high demand for graduates, who are receiving well above average salaries.

Duration and Availability
The course is available both internally and externally (online). The course is normally completed over three year’s full-time study, or the equivalent part-time study.

Further study
An honors year program is available to enable students to extend their knowledge of current academic research and methodology. The program includes a supervised research project and the preparation of a dissertation. Both majors also provide an ideal grounding for postgraduate studies in related and non-related fields of study. Higher degree courses to a Masters and PhD level are also available.

Students completing the undergraduate occupational safety and health course are exposed to real life industry situations. The course was developed in consultation with industry with the purpose of reflecting current industry practices and needs. OSH graduates are “workplace ready” with a sensible blend of OSH theory and OSH practical experience. Many ECU OSH students gain employment in the OSH field prior to completing the course.

Entry Requirements & Course Duration
The Bachelor of Health Science is a qualification that takes a minimum of three years to complete. However TAFE graduates with an OSH Diploma or Advanced Diploma OSH receive recognition for prior learning which will reduce the course to 18 months or 24 months respective. Professional Recognition / Accreditation
Graduates may be eligible to apply for various levels of membership with the Safety Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists.
